Simply put, these blocks are gorgeous. They are so well-crafted and lovely and come in such a wide variety of shapes and sizes. My husband and I even enjoy playing with my daughter, helping her to build towers and fantastical structures. She also likes to lay the flat blocks in a line and use them as roads for her cars, complete with the triangular blocks at the end for ramps.

HABA makes high quality blocks which are pleasing to the eye and satin-smooth. The wood is strong and resists dents/dings. Each shape is designed to fit with the others to make attractive structures.
The shapes included in the Extra Large Starter Set are interesting enough to encourage children to play and build for hours. My husband and I cannot resist helping!
HABA blocks are well worth the price. I plan to purchase more HABA block sets to expand our construction horizons. What a great memory-making toy!

We bought this set for our son’s first birthday. The colors are amazing, very cool! 100 pieces is plenty to build all kinds of towers and I have to admit, me and my husband love to build with these blocks. Our son has had these for six months now and not a day goes by when he pulls them out of the box and stacks them in towers. They ahve been through a lot and are showing some wear, the paint is chipping from a fe blocks but overall these blocks last well. These are one of the very few toys we’ll be saving.

I just purchased this for my 2 year old daughter and she immediately took to them, constructing all sorts of buildings and vehicles and inventing stories for them. It brought back fond memories of the type of play I had with Legos as a child. It’s sad that Legos have become so commercialized and specialized today.

The good:

- Bright, engaging colors.
- A good assortment of generalized bricks encourages free form construction.
- Includes 2 “car” bricks (with 4 wheels each)
- Compatible with the Lego Duplo system.
- Zero waste in the packaging. The box it comes in serves as a permanent, compact storage unit. Even the “lid” of the box serves double duty as a baseplate.

The bad:

- Made in China.
- The 2 “people” bricks are ugly. Lego has much cuter people.
- The “people” bricks do not have studs on the top of their heads. My daughter was pretty sad about this as she wanted to put 2×2 bricks on their heads as “hats”.

I jumped the gun a little and bought these blocks when my son was about 8mo old. Even though this toy is recommended for kids of about one year, my son still spent considerable time examining the cubes and mouthing them. What I like about blocks in general though, is that they can grow with your child – add different shapes and colors later on and the kid can build so many things with them for a very long time. The educational value of blocks is very great, because they can become whatever your child imagines them to be, as opposed to the toys already shaped as objects. Plus, these blocks will last forever, for my next child, and then to be passed on to someone else!

Excellent Blocks

First, these blocks are 1 3/4–1.75–inches tall/square. That is an excellent size. On one side is embossed the capital letter and border design, and the lower case of the same letter is embossed with a border design on the opposite side.

Each block is all the same color–they come in dark colors of red, blue and green. The designs of images starting with the letter–same letter as embossed on two sides of the block–are the same color, and very neat and distinct. They include a picture and a name for each design/side. They are very interesting to look at.

The tray is not as tall as the blocks, which makes it easier to reach in and remove a block. There are also two block spaces empty, which helps with removing one, too.

This is a GOOD set of alphabet blocks. I am pleased with them.

These are the best toy I have ever gotten my girls in my opinion. They are really vintage looking and I love the designs on them and the colors are so great. They are also the perfect size and not a choking hazard at all! I was worried about that because I ordered them for my 8 month old, but it is not an issue. You will love these blocks! I wish I could find more awesome vintage type toys like these. All the electronic toys need batteries and just don’t feel the same.

EXCELLENT PLAY VALUE!!

My older two children had these when they were little. It hit me like a ton of bricks (haha) that my 3 year old would LOVE them. I knew I could depend on Amazon! Once you assemble one brick, it is quite easy to do. It is much easier to do it WITHOUT your child watching you, but hey, it is still fun. The imagination is great as you watch them build Billy Blazes, the Rescue Heroes, a new house…..line them up and make a road for their cars….build a castle…or just pile them up to knock over! My 7 yr old has created furniture for her American Girl doll wtih them as well! They are quite durable and you can even stand on them without crushing them. They do take up some room, so you might want to save a large box to store them in. Or, you can do what I do and line them up against the wall and pretend it is the fireplace I don’t have. I don’t think you can go wrong with this good old fashioned fun! Hey, and the GREATEST thing of all….NO BATTERIES and they don’t talk!!!!! I am off to order a second set while they are in stock! I think we might get the castle ones this time to add on to our set!!

A Hit With Toddlers

We bought these for my 17 month old son, despite his lack of interest in Megablocks and Duplo.

They aren’t too difficult to assemble, but the instructions could be better. By the time we had the first two blocks assembled, my son was already stacking them.

This is a great rainy day activity for the whole family (mom, dad and child). We spent several hours yesterday building towers and castles and knockling them down. My son also uses the pieces for imaginative play (who would have thought a blue piece + a yellow piece = a telephone?). I can tell these are going to be a favorite for years to come – I’m going to order more!

Fun educational toy

As someone who grew up with Sesame Street, Legos, K’nex, and Erector, I felt like this was the perfect toy for my 2-year-old niece. Although my she is much more fascinated with anything that has Dora or Spongebob on the label, I find that this Cookie Monster building set is still a great way for us to connect and for me to help teach her vocabulary and how to follow a plan.

I bought this for my 4 year old nephew who has cerebral palsy, because he needs toys like this to help with his fine motor skills. It is wonderful for him, as well as for my own 2 year old son. My 2 year old can build whatever he wants with the blocks, while his older cousin can build the actual designs. I got this on amazon when it was $7.99 at Christmas and it was a STEAL! It comes with more blocks than a standard Duplo set and has lots of cards with plans to build characters, shapes, etc. Great toy.
